The Devil
Card 15The Devil represents bondage to material desires, addiction, shadow aspects of the self, and patterns that keep you trapped. The chains are loose; you can leave whenever you choose.
Card Description
A horned figure with bat wings presides over two chained human figures. The chains around their necks are loose enough to remove, revealing that their bondage is self-imposed. The inverted pentagram above the devil's head represents the darker side of human nature. The figures have small horns and tails, showing they are slowly becoming what enslaves them. Yet the card carries a hidden teaching: awareness of your chains is the first step to freedom.
